were some important statistic and
other information that would speak
strongly against it,

First, on! population and land
urea comparisons, we find North
Vancouver City is much more cco-
nomic to service on these terms than
the district.

The city land area is upproxi-

Second, there is a big difference
in the two populations.

The city’s population is 60%
renters or 24,000 residents. whereas
the district’s population is 20%
renters. or 16,600 residents. The
municipal tax rate is different as
well. In the district the rate is $7.10
per $1,000. In the city the rate is
$6.50 per $1,000. So, if there was an
amalgamation, uiere is bound to be
an increase inthe city rte and there-

fore rent increases in the city.

This will add to the social woes
of the city. The city today is not bro-
ken, but the pressures on the resi-
dents from an amalgamation would
break it.

In the district the problems for
the future don’t revolve around pop-
ulation increases of people and their
cara. The future problems revolve
around too many car trips resulting
from planning that does not relate to
pedestrian distances — in short,
suburban sprawl.

Amalgamation won't fix that
