Biddlecomb awards presented to locals FOREST HILLS Little League handed out its Robert: Biddlecomb awards last weekend to major league player Nathan McIntyre and minor league player Chris Mitchell. Even the effects of chemotherapy couldn't shake his resolve and good sense of humor. “He was a really gutsy kid,” Forest Hills league president Blaine Pockett said. The awards recognize players with general abilities but with exceptional attitude and sports- manship. Mitchell, also 12, played for the North Share Credit Union and won the award after being nomi- nated three years in a row. . SENIOR LITTLE LEAGUE . THER ONE Entering last week's schedule, North Van Central’s tight grip on first place appeared to be loosen- ing. The team’s win-loss record of 15-6 (.714) was still best in the league, but the Cypress Park Islanders had moved into position to challenge the top spot with their second-place record of 14-7 (.667). North Van came out of the week with two wins and one loss while the Islanders won al] three of their games, The key game for the Islanders was a tight 3-2 win over North Van Central. The West Vancouver-Cypress Movntaineers, *meanwhile, held down third-place with their record of 13-8-1. Although they lost 2-1 to North Van Central, they beat up on Lynn Valley, winning 18-4 in one game and !2-5 in another. in that game Kyle Chalmers hit two home runs and a double. North Van Central also beat Brookman Highlands 18-4. The Islanders beat Mount Seymour 3- 0 and Lynn Valley 4-2.
