Traditional Chinese Medicine Dear Editor: One of my favorite Mike Gren- by stories took place in 1975. I had visited his house in April riding my motorcycle and had to explain to him that it wasn’t “that’’ dangerous and only cost six cents a day for gas because 1 would coast to work and only have to start the engine to go home. About three weeks later I received three phone calls as ! was about to leave town saying that Mike Grenby had to talk to me. Thinking that there was something momentous about to happen in the RRSP world or a major shift in income tax law, I called him and received an invita- tion to “‘come right over,” which I did. The reason: Mike had acquired a moped (which got far better mileage than my 250XL Honda) and needed help putting it together because it came in pieces in a box. For the next year, we were all regaled with pictures of Mike on billboards, and many others were held up as he negotiated the Lions Gate Bridge riding to work each morning at the old ‘‘Evening’’ Sun. 1 am pleased to see that Mike has now arrived on the North Shore. [1 was getting lonely over here. | am siding my 1979 SOOTK Yamaha back and forth now and figure that it takes four cents of gas to get to work and 16 cents to get home. (Now that we have moved from Lonsdale _—to Capilano Mall, 1 have to turn the engine on coming down Marine Drive.) Mike, ! challenge you. Get out the moped again. 1 know you can coast most of the way to work. David Ingram North Vancouver Paint won’t do the job Dear Editor: For many of us who venture ‘back and forth every day on the Lions Gate Bridge, the posting of our government’s signs announc- ing the coming of improvements to the old lady is a welcome sight. However, when one sees that the improvement our benevolent masters are talking about is a coat ‘Of paint, it is enough to make you laugh. Anyone can see that this is tan- tamount to painting the body of a 1936 car without .doing anything about the body itself. {ft is clear to all who use the bridge that some serie::s work is needed. The road bed and indeed the sidewalks are out of alignment by eight inches to a foot. Who knows what the supports are like? ft is well known that there have been many studies done on this. So how about the Dept. of High- ways giving us an educated and honest analysis of what the long- term plan for the bridge is — and indeed, how bad is the structure — and when, when, will some meaningful work be done? Can you believe it? Paint! D.B.C. Johnston North Vancouver DAVID MITCHELL On Health Care: G One of the most important areas of concern is health care. We - must remain firm in our commiiment to the delivery on a universal basis of the highest quality heaith care. This should be the first order of business for government. “This issue has a very personal dimension for me. My parents are retired; my father is very ill. Yam extremely con- cerned about how he is being handled by the system, And I continue to hear horror stories — about the lack of hospital beds for people who des- perately need care; about long waiting lists for critical surgery; about British Columbians travelling to the U.S. for crucial medical treatments that cannot be performed here. “This is unacceptable. Our health care system has serious structural problems that must be dealt with. 9 9 #300-1401 LONSDALE, NORTH VANCOUVER, BC. _ for Delbrook Naturopathic Medical Centre Ste 116 3711 Delbrook Ave. 986-9191 NORTH VANCOUVER -LONSDALE A Proven Record — Gary Bannerman (Columnist, North Shore News) “The most solid candidate from this area - and arguably the best..."
