VOLUNTEERS

GIVE THE gift of your time and
energy this Christmas by becom-
ing a volunteer. The following is a
sample of the many volunteer op-
portunities available through
North Shore Community Services.

A SENSITIVE person is wanted
to assist seniors, who are
neurologically handicapped, with
swimming exercises, changing
swimwear and supporting them in
wheelchairs. Hours are Tuesdays
_ and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to
noon. The volunteer will have free
use of the swimming pvol before
and after classes.

A MEDICAL records clerk is
required to transcribe information
from patient's files to data forms
for research projects. This is a
short-term project which will re-
quire a three-day work week for a

Buddies meet

BOSOM BUDDIES is a self-heip
group for women who have expe-
rienced the trauma of breast
cancer and its attendant fears.

Meetings provide an opportuni-
ty to meet and make friends with
others in.a similar position and to
gain strength and confidence from
belonging tc a friendly group with
very positive thinking.

The group also. provides people '

with the opportunity to talk to
others about a subject to which
family members often cannot
relate. This sharing of information
is often a postive step in the self-
help process.

New members are invited to
join Bosom Buddies for a dinner
on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at the
Avalon. Hotel in North Van-

needed. Requirements are good
English and organizational skills,
confidentiality and pro-conception
viewpoint. The required = three
hours a week are flexible.

DO YOU enjoy the arts? Here’s
an opportunity to work at a local
art gallery. Assistance is needed
with publicity, newsletters, and
press releases. The position also
includes fundraising, office help
and hanging exhibits; the hours
are flexible.

A PATIENT person with com-
puter skills is wanted to assist a
woman, age 31, in a wheelchair,
with her IBM computer, word
processing, typing and playing
video games. A female is prefer-

red for this position and the two
to three hours a week are flexible.

FRIENDLY PERSON to visit a
70-year-old who has travelled ex-
tensively, loves classical music and
enjoys reminiscing. Flexible hours
daytime and possibly weekends
two 1o three times a month.

DAYCARE ASSISTANT to
assist children aged three to five
years with reading, art activities,
and occasional housekeeping. This
is an excellent opportunity to gain
early childhood education experi-
ence. Hours are flexible weekdays
8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
