preparation

directory
underway

THE B.C. Council for the Family
recently announced that work is
underway to produce a province-
wide directory of marriage
preparation course offerings.

Through a $260,000 grant from
the Ministry of Health, a co-or-
dinator has been hired to conduct
a survey of groups and organiza-
tions in British Columbia who are
offering marriage preparation
courses.

It is expected that the survey will
be completed by late December
and that a directory will be ready
for distribution through a broad
range of sources in early 1989.

“The publicity generated by our
province-wide consultation in
March of this year resulted in
hundreds of calls of inquiry from
those planning weddings, who
wanted to register in a marriage
preparation course. The directory
will make it easier for couples to
locate the course offerings in their
communities,’’ said Dr. Carol
Matusicky, executive director for
the B.C. Council for the Family.

Since March, 1988, the council
has produced two publications on
the subject of marriage prepara-
tion. Marriage Preparation, A
Resource Book for Instruction, in-
tended for those teaching marriage
Preparation programs, is available
for $20 a copy from the Council,
The well received booklet Your
Marriage Needs Responsible Deci-
sions is now into a second printing.
Copies continue to be available,
free of charge, from Government
Agents and through the B.C.
Council for the Family offices in
Vancouver anc Victoria.
