Man charged
for WV B&Es

EIGHT (theft-related charges have lunded an 18-year-old Burnaby
man in court.

Michael Anthony Verlaan appeared in North Vancouver provin-
cial court Friday (Aug. 8) to face charges of theft over $1,000 and
possession of stolen property following a June | police seizure of
wallets, cassette tape recorders, tapes, credit cards and jewelry.

In addition to the theft, Verlaan was charged with using a stolen
Royal Bank Visa credit card.

Appearing before North Vancouver provincial court Judge PLL.
Maughan, Veciaan was remanded for trial. Proceedings are sched-
uled to begin Nov. 19.

Nude cyclist
faces charges

| A 26-year-old man couldn't buff his way out of it, after being
spotted cycling in the nude by police.

The naked North Vancouver man was riding his 12-speed bike
Aug. (0 at 1:10 a.m. when North Vancouver RCMP arrested him
at the corner of 13th Avenue and Mahon.

The man faces charges of public nudity.

WEST VANCOUVER Police have chacged a 33-year-old man with
eight counts of break and enter for offences that occurred in
Ambleside area apartments on or about July 28.

Charged is Rosario Mark Masotti, of no fixed address.

Wickberg suid the club, which
will hold its charter night Sept. 26
at Canyon Gardens, is unique
because most of its members are
retired,

“They are looking for a new
challenge. And what better way to
challenge your energies than
through Kiwanis. You can do a lot
of good for a lot of people.”

Wickberg said Kiwanis is well-
known for its service work tor
scaiors, especially in the area of
housing.

He said he expects the new
Kiwanis Club will continue to
work along this line.

He noted that ‘'seniors are going
to be the greatest percentage of
North Shore people, especially in
West Vancouver.”’

Wickberg said the experience that
the members of the Capilano
Kiwanis Club have will be a great
benefit to any senior in need of
business advice, for example.

He said unlike the other 13
Kiwanis Clubs in the Lower
Mainland, the Capilano Kiwanis
Club is specialized, with most of
its members over the age of 50.

He said there are 40 members,
but the club is hoping to have 65
members.

They meet every Tuesday at the
Kiwanis Lodge from 10 a.m. to
noon.
