The police were called to the 1700 block of Lonsdale just after 4 a.m. Thursday by a resident of that area who heard the sound of breaking glass. RCMP arrived to find the window of the Kelly’s elec- tronics store there had been smashed and items removed from the store. Police gave chase to a van that had left the area and had it pulled over once be- fore the driver attempted to flee. The van crossed Lonsdale and raced south on St. George’s before the driver pulled into an alley between Fifth and Sixth streets. He parked the van part- way down the alley and fled the area on foot. Police gave chase but were unable to bring down the suspect. ‘\pside the van, police found eight video cassette recorders, valued at more than $600 each, and two turntables that had been stolen from the electronics store. Police also discovered that the van had been stolen in By MARK HAMILTON the Vancouver area earlier in the evening, leaving them with the goods but without a suspect in the attempted smash and grab. To press time investiga- tion was continuing and police were asking for public help from anyone who may have witnessed the break-in or the thieves fleet-footed flight from the alley off St. George’s.
