He said the police officers requested the partiers disperse, “but with little success”. OFFICER WAS JUMPED “One of the officers went to look at an injured per- son,” the spokesman siad, and at that poing he was ‘jumped from behind. One of the first people to assault the officer, he alleged, was the injured person he had gone to assist. “Others came into the brawl,” the spokesman said, and another office was assaulted. Rocks were also thrown at the police, he said. The party got noisier, the spokesman said, and at one point six police officers and a reserve were on the scene trying to disperse the people. At 1:30 a.m. the police wagon arrived and a number of people were taken into custody. By 2 a.m., the spokesman said, the par- tygoers had dispersed. The two police officers who had been assaulted suffered no serious injuries, he added. Police say it appears the gathering was a continuation of an earlier disturbance in the MacDonald's parking lot at 1400 Marine Drive. At) 8:30 p.m... the spokesman said, a group of 40 youths were dispersed for being rowdy in the parking lot. Many of these people start ruckus turned up at the later party, he said. GATECRASHERS The people who were on the street when the police arrived, were trying to crash a party, police say. A police spokesman said the host of the party called to complain about the disturbance at about just the time police arrived on the scence. Facing charges of assaulting a police officer are, Russell George Tarling, 17 of 1110 Queens Avenue; Alan John Reber, 19, of 5709 Marine Drive, both of West Van, Robert Scott Parker, 19, of 1307-2008 Fullerton Avenuc, and a 16-year-old female, both of North Van. Charged with obstructing a police officer are Tarling, the 16-year-old, Michael Muelleder, 20, 1045 20th Street, and Robert John Aylesworth, 19, of 1208-2020 Bellevue Avenue, both of West Van. Charged with creating a disturbance are, Tarling, the 16-year-old juvenile, Reber, Muecelleder, Parker, Aylesworth, and Jerald Mathias Gillis, 20, Suite 212- 269 East Fourth Avenue in North Van. All of the accused were released on their own recognizance, police say, and will appear in court at a later date. West Vancouver Police report that people have recently reported a number of items such as wallets aud 1.D. going missing al partics.
