Bob Byam officia'ly opened the detachment’s first communi- ty policing office at 232 Lonsdale Ave., recently as constables Marty Blais, left and John Mac- Dougall look on. The office will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. initially, after which time the hours will be extended. Const. Rino LeClerc is the officer-in-charge of the new store-front policing office and will be working with several volunteers. The purpose of the office is to bring the police and the community closer together to build a safer and healthier community. Former NVC fire chief dies THE FLAG was at half-mast in front of the North Vancouver City - Fire Department (NVCFD) this week in honor of former fire chief . Douglas Glen Cairns, who died suddenly on Nov. 11. Cairns was 61. Cairns was fire chief for five years before retiring in 1989, He had worked at the fire . department for 35 years. Said NVCFD. Chief.
