A few years back when I
was living i in Kitsilano, I
witnessed an incident
between a dog and a fet-
ter carrier.

While | was puttering in
the front garden, my neigh
bour Tim, who had a retriever
mix at the Gre, came our to
say hello, Se did bis dog,
Yasco,

At that exact moment, a
letter carrier came out of the
rhododendron bushes and cut
across my front lawn to deliver
my ail.

Well, this completely
freaked little Yasco out and she
charged him, barking up a
storm. In Yasco’s eves, a
stranger had come out of the
bushes and walked right
towards me in a very assertive
manner. Yasco had no choice
but to protect her territory
and me. Tim and I immediate-
ly ran towards her to try and
grab her. But before we had a
chance, the letter carrier took
things in his own hands.

He began to jump up and
down while screaming out

loud, waving his hands in the
air and staring at the dog. He
then began tossing all of his
mail at ¥asco. Poor little Yasco
had a fit. She continued to
bark and grow! and not back
down,

As E watched the scene in
front of me [ wanted to think,
“This guy is a loo-loo bird,”
but I knew that somehow he
received the wrong intorma-
tion when it comes to dealing
with strange dogs. He’s not
alone. There are a lot of peo-
ple who would have done the
same thing.

Dogs speak to one another
through their body language.
