Lauder launches ‘smart’ cream

IT may be the only
skincare product on
the market that took a
rocket scientist to cre-
ate it.

Manhattan socialites use it
to treat their babizs’ diaper
rash, an Austrian countess
bathes in it and longtime
users swear it has repaired
their skin... overnight. Its
founder, NASA _ aerospace
physicist Max Huber, even
ate it for lunch — with brown
rice and apple sauce. Did we
mention it’s $215 a jar?

drop, organic chemist George
Cioca told how Huber devel-
oped the “smart cream” to
heal chemical burns he suf-
fered on his face. Recogniz-
ing the healing properties of
botanicals, Huber used a
biofermentation process to
preserve their potency, actual-
ly “stewing” extracts of kelp,
alfalfa, sunflowers and euca-
lyptus, for five months.

The thick, creamy mois-
turizer that he cooked up in
his California garage gained a
cult following through the
°70s and ’80s, and was pur-
chased by Estée Lauder, fol-
lowing Huber’s death in “91.
