POLICE LAST week issued a Canada-wide warrant for the man wanted for the murder of 16-year-old schoolgirl Pamela Caraercn in Surrey. The suspect, a convicted rapist who refused treatment while serving time in Kingston penitentiary, was released after serving two-thirds of his sentence. He was a free man with no conditions imposed by the justice system. As expected, the murder has outraged the community. Along with placing more than 100 bouquets of flowers at the death site over the past (wo weeks, many pecple have left messages such as “Bring back capital punishment.” Those demanding tougher sentencing for sex offenders say that sexual predators cannot be cured. Apart from the death penalty, some people think these criminals should be castrated and/or locked up for life. Others say that at the very least the public should be made aware when sexual offenders are released from prison back into the community. What do you think?
