~ SPORTS Tip: practice equals results THE BIGGEST stumbling block to the improvement or enjoyment of player's golf game, typically, is lack of prac- tice. By Doug Andrews Contributing Writer Any improvement in your golf swing will come very slowly, if at all, by playing just on the golf course. Players, from beginners to pros, need to strike a balance between practice and playing. - The keys to productive practice are a proper warm-up routine and a purpose. Before you begin, be sure to stretch the muscles you will be using in the golf swing (arms, shoul- ders, upper and lower back and legs). Next, take two long irons and hold them together. Begin swinging them back and forth until you can complete a full swing comfortably. The added weight of two clubs will help to warm up your muscles. Dedicate the first 15 or 20 balls DOUG ANDREWS you hit to creating some flow in your golf swing. Start with the wedge with a relaxed grip and swing freely. Don’t worry about distance. just concentrate on rhythm and bal- ance. Once you’re warmed up, it’s time to focus in on your purpose.
