is our cemetery is too small for a
full-time job. We're not big
enough to generate a lot of graves
each year so it doesn’t justify hav-
ing full-time people up there.””

North Vancouver City taxpayers
subsidize the cost of maintaining
the cemetery. Last vear the bill
was about $75,000.

McKay said film crews use the
older section of the graveyard as a
location about three times a year.
The city charges $400 a day, and
the money goes into the general
revenue coffers of the city.

“It’s not a gold mine,”* he said.

The North Vancouver cemetery,
located north of Capilano College
on Lillooet Road, was officially
opened in 1910. Approximately
9,200 people are buried there.

The site covers 63.5 acres. The
actual burial area covers 22 acres.
