ENERGY SAVING A NEW North Vancouver com- pany has set up operations to help reduce home heating and energy costs. Ted Adair of Ener Savers Heat and Energy Improvements said more homeowners are becoming worried about the rising cost of heating and energy. Suri BUSINESS BRIEFS Adair says Ener Savers provides an ‘“‘unparalleled service’’ to every homeowner regardiess of how old the house is or what kind of heating system it has. Adair says his crew will conduct a thorough inspection of over 100 points in and around the house from crawl spaces to the attic. He adds that an inspector will then walk the homeowner through an extensive assessment report to identify specific problem areas where heat and energy may be escaping and will also ex- plain what is needed to correct the problem. “Infiltration of cold air repre- sents up to 35% of total heat loss,”” says Adair. ‘‘You don't have to spend a fortune on renovations. My making. im- provements such as caulking, weather-stripping and adding in- sulation to your attic, you not on- ly reduce energy costs dramatical- ly, but you also increase the com- fort and value of your home.” For more information, call Adair at 986-7425, FEDERAL FUNDS THE SCIENCE Council of B.C. NEWS photo Mike W. will receive $15,000 from Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) to be used towards the cost of a feasibility study on the cre- ation of a B.C. consortium for drug development. The consortium would draw together resources from the Uni- versity of B.C. and its seven teaching hospitals to attract clinical testing by pharmaceutical companies. Services would include schedul- ing hospital beds, arranging nurs- ing staff, lab time, data compila- tion, pharmacological advice and other support. The feasibility study would be conducted by Ernst and Young who will examine structure, per- sonnel, operations, marketing, budgets and a time schedule for the start-up and ongoing opera- tion of the consortium. Total costs of the study are estimated at $58,000. The idea for the consortium came from Strategic Planning for Applied Research and Knowledge (SPARK), which is an initiative of the Science Council of B.C. ‘‘Normally pharmaceutical companies must approach a number of individual doctors and facilities in various cities to ar- range clinica! resis for new pro- ducts,’’ suni SPARK director Tom Turner. “The consortium would offer a new service by coordinating this activity, marketing the potential of British Columbia for clinical tests and ultimately stimulating additional research spending in the provinces by internationa! phar- maceutical companies.”’ LOUIS RETURNS TIM LOUIS has beer re-elected to serve a further one-year term as chairman of Vancouver City Savings Credit Union.
