Bryan returned home from Surrey in England, where he’s been working on new music, just in time to spend Christmas with his mother, brother and the rest of the family COCKTAILS @ in North Vancouver. Those lucky folk also enjoyed the company of Bryan’s favorite lady, the glamorous Victoria Russell, who joined them just in time for the holidays. Miss Vickie is the daughter of the famed film director Ken Russeli, and while she’s not really an actress, she’s appeared in hun- dreds of films, especially notable as the bride in ‘The Rocky Hor- ror Picture Show.’’ She works mainly behind the scenes now in movies and commercials. According to her friend, jane (Mrs. Bruce Alien) Macdougall, Victoria is a lovely person who always has a sense of festivity about her, and is just perfect for Bryan. On Wednesday afternoon, Bryan, Victoria, Bruce and his assistant, Kim Blake, flew out on a 747 for a huge sold-out show far across the Pacific Ocean. Bryan is the headliner at the New Year's Eve gala concert at the 60,000-seat Tokyo Dome tonight. And he'll do another repeat sell-out tomorrow night in the same stadium. Then he and Vickie and Bruce will jump into another jet and return home to Vancouver for another couple of weeks. Kim Blake is delaying her return home as she is taking her annual two- week holiday and flying off to Australia. and the Land Down Under... Starting the New Year right is a popular and jolly little fellow, who, if he'd been of a bigger build, would have made the ideal Santa Claus! Veteran punster and former items columnist with the Vancouver Province, Himie Koshevoy, celebrates his 80th bir- thday on Wednesday, January 3rd. The ageless Mr. Koshevoy lived for many years on the WV water- front with his wife, Katie, befure moving to a pretty bungalow on Hadden Drive. His new neighbor was one of the founders of CHAN Tv, now BCTV, Ch. 8, Art Jones. For years, Art had had a grumpy neighbor next doer to him so he'd let the huge laurel hedge between the properties really grow and flourish. Himie, known affectionately as the jewish leprechaun, had his bright and informative column in the Province from August of 1961 until he retired in 1976, always featuring the funny side of life, with a joke or a quip and never and unkind word. He epitomized the Christmas spirit of good fellowship all vear round! For years, you'd see that unmat- ched couple of journalists, big Bill Good Sr. who is well over six feet tall, and tiny Himie, who is barely five feet tall, strolling the WV seawall walk. But he finally had to move again. He visits twice a day every day, as loving and as caring as the day they were mar- ried. it's a true love story, one from which we could all learn. Happy 80th birthday on Wednesday, Himie, and many, many morel... Art Jones, besides founding Ch. 8, is also a former executive direc- tor of Tourism Vancouver and is currently operating his own con- sultancy firm. In fact, it was Art who was in charge of the promo- tion and public relations for the extensively revamped and updated historic treasure which, when it was opened, was the tallest build- ing in the British Empire, the Marine Building.
