10 - Sunday, January 18, 1987 - North Shore News ESTIMATES OF BETWEEN 20,000 A ND 40,000 CANADIANS Survey to record number of homeless CANADIANS will have a much clearer picture of homelessness in Canada foliowing a ‘‘snapshot"’ survey being conducted by the Ca- nadian Council on Social Development (CCSD) Jan. 22. On this day, more than 1,000 providers of shelter and services to the homeless across Canada will record the number of persons pass- ing through their doors and the services they provide. The survey is the first attempt to enumerate Canada's homeless. At present, there is no official tally; estimates range from 20,000 to 40,000, or between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent of the population. Survey results will be made public in Canada and around the world as part of the United Nations tnter- national Year of Shelter for the Homeless.
