It's spring pianting time again, and time to examine flower beds and vegeta-
ble plots for tired, hard-packed soil, before you begin seeding or transplanting.
Probably the best all-around soil conditioner and rejuvenator is mushroom
manure (from horses, and first used to grow mushrooms). This material is
inexpensive and adds considerable fibre to soils, as well as essential plant
nutrients. Itis fairly alkaline, and should not be used around some broadieaved
evergreens (rhododendrons, azaleas, heather, etc.) but otherwise can be used

tions. A multitude of brigh ft pink blooms cover the plant
in fate March to April. Plants in fibrous soil which is
