entered into a race-long
battle for second place.

Following the retirement
of Seattle’s Tom Wiechmann
due to mechanical problems,
Clifford, Riley Hopkins of
California and Buff Hooper

is in Atlanta, Georgia at the
Race Atlanta track. The July
10 event will last four hours.

Howard set out at the
beginning of this season to
wrestle the Canadian Road
Racing crown away from
Quebec's Alan Labrosse in a
gruelling four-race series.

season, his last as an
amatuer, with an impressive
18 firsts over 16 weekends
(35 races), including the
overall title at Sears Point
four-hour endurance race.

Howard turned 21 on May

TWO NORTH SHORE
women topped the results in
last weekend’s Fox Trot run.

Jackie Orr and Leslie
Beckerman placed first and
second in the women ages
14-17 category with times of
26:38 and 28:21 respectively.

Both athletes have been
heavily involved in the local
high school track and field
program. Beckerman, a
Hillside student,
distinguished herself earlier
this year at the North Shore
meet by winning the junior
girls aggregate title.

Matt Hill came third in the
category with a time of
29:06.

The Fox Trot is an annual
seven kilometre run which
