BS - Wedmuecsdny, June 9, 1982 - North Shore News EM sport Argyle wins jr. girls softball TWO WAS the magic number for Argyle, when it defeated challenger Sutherland by two points in a two game run for the North Shore junior girls softball championship. Argyle captured the best of three toummey with scores of 7-5 and 6-4, with Dale Sault the winning pitcher for both games. The wins capped off an undefeated season for the Lynn Valley ladies, who had Six straight victories in regular play. In senior girls action, Carson Graham White and Sutherland are battling it out for the North Shore title. The first game Thursday saw Sutherland topple CG 4- 2, with Karen Haywood going the distance. Left fielder Shannon Ellison and second baser Ruth Butler each managed 2 hits in 3 tnes at bat. Results of the second, and possible last, game in the best-of-three sernes were unavailable at News press time. In semi-final action, Carson defeated Argyle 8-4 with Paula George on the mound in the three-hitter. Gina Carabetta and Ariene Sterk each had a three-run tiple for the winners, and Argyle’s Laura McKinlay had a two-run homer. Sutherland posted = a shutout in its semi-final! match over Howe Sound, with Karen Haywood jpi- ching. The 40 win was the first shutout in the playoffs. the third in the season and the first for Sutherland. Ironically enough, Howe Sound was one of the other schools which posted 2 shutout this year. Handsworth, which was m a three-way tie with Argyle and Howe Sound for third place, was knocked out of the playoffs by Argyle m a “mini-playoff” to determime the third and fourth berths.
