mailbox i Curb vested interests on school board Dear Editor: I wish to respond to School Trustee Burbidge's letter of December 3, 1980 which expressed his impres- sions of the November 19 Education Forum at Brooksbank School. I wish to strongly disagree with his interpretation of the briefs presented. I did not hear one speaker who was not courteous. Perhaps Mr. Burbidge confuses criticism with courtesy and abuse. As the one referred to in his let- ter as “one of the ore vociferous speakers”, thight 1 ask, was I as a citizen not asked to voice my concems? Was I not courteous? Or Concrete Dear Editor: 1 am led to believe that Mr. D. Lanskail is a firm supporter of the developers, who would turn West Van into another West End. so ! am addressing this letter to Aldermen Finlay and Hicks in the hope that they will not turn our lvely municipality into a thighnse concrete jungle. It seems wicked that, on a technicality, at a council meeting where all the members were not present, a re-zoning by-law designed to save our village from greed gone rampant, was tured down The present council was voted into office on the presumption that it sup- ported the endeavour of kee ping our lovahty from the further depredatioas of developers of — highrise buildings They are. on the whole. dedicated to making vast sums of moncy. and they are backed, in| most cases, by vast sums of NOT TOOLATE FOR X-MAS PARTIES Food cooked ew! I should admit to being somewhat indignant as my brief covered such subjects as the District's refusal to conform to the Public Schools Act on pupil report cards. This subject was brought to our School Board under the chairmanship of Mr. Burbidge and Mrs. Lynes. I have asked the Mintster to “unplement a process of appeal or conflict of interest legislahon” that would guarantee “a _ fair heanng to our complaints and concerns’ and guarantee that “vested in- terest groups cannot control our School Board, our children’s minds, and our tax dollars.” } must add, that I too was impressed by the Honorable Mr. Bnan Smith. His questions concer- mng my brief left many m at- fendance with the impres- sion that we might expect greater enforcement of the Public Schools Act and significant changes in the use of psychoanalysis im _ the classroom.
