fresh fruits and vegetables if
there are produce farms near
the campsite.

If your child is a diabetic
you might consider sending
her or him to one of the
twelve residential camps
across the country spon-
sored by the Canadian
Diabetic Association

through local district-

branches. Financial
assistance is generally
available for campers who
are unable to afford the full
camp fee.

Camp Kakhamela, the
B.C. Division Camp, will
take place at Lake Cowichan
from 30 June to 30 July 1979.
Children ages 8 to 16 are
invited to attend.

Summer camp provides
memorable experiences for
all children — campfire sing-
alongs, learning how to pitch
a tent, make a fire, cook a
meal. It can also faster

But, for children with
diabetes, a good camp —
one that provides a balance
between physical activity
and medical and dietary
needs — can be even more.

It can be a place to mect
other diabetic children, to
compare notes and to feel
for once part of the rule
rather than the exception. It
can also give campers the
chance to learn more about
the disease and the practical
aspects of insulin injections
and urine testing from
medical and nursing staff.
