The Montreal garage rockers who copped the monicker of the Flintstones’ neighbours gained recogni- tion in the 1980s for their 60s retro sound and image. Back without the mop tops, but better chops, are Bobby Beaton (singer/gui- - tarist), Gerry Alvarez (gui- tar/vocals), John Knoll (drums) and John Davis (bass). The Quebec quartet - came to NewMusicWest :~ 2000 and played during Saturday afternoon's Rumble on the Plaza and headlined a late night show- case at the Brickyard. Elsewhere on the former Expo site, Pepper Sands, Brundlefly and Cinderpop played in a sparsely attended all ages show in the main gallery at Science World. The unconventional venve boasted better sound than the B.C. Pavilion and had a nifty assortment of hands-on exhibits. Including a do-it- yourself bubble maker. Pop goes the bubbles and the music. Stan Ridgway made a long-awaited return to Vancouver in a half-empty (or half-full) Richard’s on Richards. The eccentric California singer, who once led Wall of Voodoo, played songs from his fatest album Anatomy and offered his weirdly brilliant “Camouflage” and cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”.
