Square dancing as a whole has matured from a barn dance activi- ty to a recognized dance form that includes such traditional dances as clogging, contra and line-dance, and other pattern dance. Thanks to the western influence of such films as Urban Cowboy, and the recent fashion trends of the prairie skirt and the crinoline, square dancing has blossomed into a modern acrobic activity.
