WY working with ferry corp Spaxman to help H. Bay plans Cetherine Barr Contributing Writer WEST Vancouver coun- cil has finalized a detailed planning scheme for BC Ferries and their revised Horseshoe Bay facilities. RC Ferries has avreed to postpone the new parkade for ayear, And dast week, the cor- poration announced that they had abandoned the original plans to include retail space in their new administration and ticketing, Facility. It is all part of a revised package plan designed to get something moving in Horseshoe Bay. West Vancouver district has retained the services of Ray Spaxman to help the director of planning with the BC Ferries negotiations, Spaxman is a former city planner for Vancouver and, according to council members, is the perteet person for the job. “As part of (that) package, we would expect the coopera- tion of West Vancouver coun- cil in the development of thar (administrative) building,” said BC Ferries’ spokesman Eric Kristianson. Many of the area's residents and businesses have been opposed to the corporation’s proposals since the beginning. But now, as council draws up the final arrangements, they are counting it as a win. “Tam very pleased that the corporation is going to work with the community,” said West Vancouver Mayor Pat Boname in a recent interview. The original proposal, announced in October, includ- ed plans for a new $6.7 mil- lion, three storcy parkade and a $3.3 million, 6,000 sq. Mayor Pat Boname ... very pleased ferry corp. wili work with community structure to house administra- tee and ticketing functions as well as a commercial compo- nent. But the revised plans will not include the commercial space. “This mean the building will now have to be built with public sector finds instead of private investors’ money. This could mean an extra $100,000 per year in costs to BC Ferries. As part of the formalized details, West Vancouver has agreed. to cooperate with the ferry corporation “for the good of the community.” “They (BC Ferries) will be designing the building so rat itis in keeping with Horse:.noe Bay,” said «= Coun. Bill Soprovich. “It shows responsi- bikty on their side and I think it’s responsible and wise for them to have backed away trom the commercial,” Soprovich, Boname and Coun. Liz Byrd have been part of the planning committee process that has been working to find a solution for the area. “It has to be a win-win sit- uation for everybody,” said Byrd. “I'nt really looking for- ward to plarining the future of Horseshoe Bay with them (BC Ferries).” | YOU SEE A LAWYER FOR ONE REASON They understand the paperwork and the evidence to be collected They have the knowledge and experience to assess the value of the claim They have the ability to collect a fair settlement THERE IS ONLY ONE REASON TO SEE A LAWYER...YOU NEED ONE ARDAGH HUNTER TURNER 986-4366 AFTER HOURS 926-3181 Créminal matters only. #300-140!
