But don’t expect a quick resolution to the problem that has divided sever- al Lower Mainland municipalities, including the chree on the North Shore. The issue came before council on Monday in the form of correspon- dence trom the Canadian Cancer Society. During discussion of the corre- spondence, Coun. Barbara Sharp pro- posed a bylaw that would recognize stifle sm Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) regulations regarding smoking in the workplace in the city. The new WCB regulations will either prohibit or severely restrict smoking in’ the workplace. Restaurants, pubs, and clubs will have exemptions undl Jan. 1, 2000. The proposal found widespread approval on council. Coun. Funding of $283,942 will bé- used to build, equip and furnish the new Parkgate Child Care Centre. _. The facility will be located ‘on a piece of undeveloped land owned by North . Vancouver District. The Parkgate centre wil! ‘ accommodate 40 children, .” from newborn to five years of age. The centre will offer a variety of child-care programs .to families on the North Shore.
