Sharon Barnes, national presi-
dent of the CMHA, says that it is
people between the ages of 25 and
54, who make up‘70 per cent of the
work force, who are most affected
by this illness. Clearly, depression

Denise McGhie, executive direc-
tor of. CMHA’s North and West
Vancouver branch,’ explained the
pathology of workplace depression
in. greater detail.

“Some factors that would con-
tribute to stress (which triggers
depression) include uncertainty,
confusion i in the workplace. anxiety

conceming the loss. of a job, the

stress of having to learn new skills,

- the feeling of having no control over

your work setting, the fear of down-
sizing and a sense of hopelessness.”
