olkfest ’94, celebrating its 20th anniversary, is a community festival cn the North Shore that this year will host the Commonwealth Games PowerSmart Sport and Culture Tour of the Queen’s Baton. Activities are focused at Celebration Central, Norseman Park (on 23rd Street between Lonsdale Avenue and St. Georges Avenue) on Friday, June 24, to Sunday, June 26. The Queen’s Baton relay wilt begin on Saturday, June 25, at 7:30 a.m. in Deep Cove’s Panorama Park and end at Horseshoe Bay on Sunday, June 26, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Over these two days, the relay will make stops at Celebration Central, North Vancouver, and Arnbleside Park, West Vancouver. Eighty North Shore residents, selected by lottery, will nin, walk or wheel the Queen's Baton for their portion of the relay. Running alongside the baton carriers will be 40 B.C. Hydro employees and 40 elite athletes, all of whom live on the North Shore. Performances Folkfest involves multicultural performers from throughout the Lower Mainland. Dance, music and song weave a continuous kaleidoscope of entertainment. Performances can be seen Saturday, June 25, on the main stage from 1:30 to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Groups performing include: Strathcona Chinese Dancers, Tatsumi Japanese Dancer Pars National Ballet, Weaver Square Dancers and the Vancouver Italian Choir. These are among the more than 25 organizations participating at Folkfest. Parade The parade promises to be the biggest yet with a record number of entries. It features the Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton. Organized by the Norih Vancouver Host Lions Club, the excitement begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, with a fly-pass by the Swift Birds, from the Antique Aircraft Society. The parade assembles at Grand Boulevard and East 13th Street.
