Sentinel steeplechasers

MAKING A splash and continuing on is Sentinel secondary school's Kevin Hestebeck during

the 2,000-metre open boys’ steeplechase race Thursday. The race was part of the 101 com-
petitions held during the 32nd annual North Shore Secondary Schools’ Track and Field Meet.
Following Heslebeck, who ended the race in seventh place, is another Sentinel athlete, Ronan
Gleeson, whe finished sixth. The meet was held at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.

look into drug raid death

A NORTH Vancouver City

dependent public inquiry to iavestigate the circumstances
surrounding the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Daniel

Possee during a Tuesday night

A six-member North Van-
couver RCMP and West Van-
couver Police team acted on a
search warrant obtained by the
West Vancouver Police crug
squad. The warrant named
Possee’s sister, Kelly Posse, as a
suspected drug dealer.

In the search warrant applica-
tion made hours before the drug
raid and shooting at 4 basement
suite located at 129 East 26th St.,
West Vancouver drug section
member Const a Pollitt notes
that an informant nad been in the
suite within the preceeding 12
hours.

“Once inside, the source
observed a quantity of marijuana
and a set of scales typical of the
kind used to traffic in a narcot-
ic,’* Pollitt wrote.

Poilitt also based his request for
a search warrant on information
received from a second ‘‘infor-
mant’’, a member of the West
Vancouver Police drug section.

But when the police entered th
suite just after 11 p.m. they saw
Daniel Possee holding a pellet ri-
fle. A 15-year veteran West Van-
couver Police officer shot Possce
once in the chest, killing him.

Two others in the suite at the
lime did not witness the shooting.
A fourth person, a friend of Kelly
and Daniel Possee’s, was with
Daniel Posscc.

Police recovered 15 grams of
marijuana and a set of scales in
the drug raid.

Meanwhile, Kelly Possec, the
subject of the search, no longer
lived in the suite at the time of the
raid,

She had been living and work-
ing as a nanny at the home of
North Vancouver City Ald. Bill
Beil.

The police are considering lay-
ing drug-related charges in con-
nection with the drugs seized dur-
ing Tuesday night's search.

Said Derek Possee, the father of
Kelly and Daniel, ‘‘I’ve been
reading now that my daughter is a
drug runner and she's this and
that, and she’s nothing of the
sort. We talked to Kelly about it.
We've had a house full of people,
