TIMOTHY RENSHAW table hopping The mid-Lonsdale restaurant produces what might be called old-lashioned international grub grande. Big tood. On big plates. In big portions. At big tables. Subtleties such as pretty vegetabie garnish and floral boutonnieres at Andrea's? Get outta town, daisy boy! Roll up you sleeves. Ready your fork and dig in. itis a food philosophy that is obviously dear to the hearts of many because Andrea’s seems always to be busy. On a recent Friday night, patrons of all shapes and sizes, ages and social standings kept lin- ing up at the door waiting for tables or waiting for takeouts. Table Hopping slipped through the side door and took a table beside Andrea's internal rock wall, which is just below the seascape mural, across from the restaurant's hanging gardens of Babylon plant display. Consistent with the Andrea‘s theme of big, the restaurant's menu is weighty. Inside is a garish four-color roundup of Greco-Roman- American grub illustrated with the kind of polaroids made famous (or infamous) by B.C. Ferry Corp. Centennial The vessel galleys. It presents a sprawling land of pizza, ribs, seatood, souvlaki and red meat. Andrea's owner Andrea Ar- soniadis, whose effusive and hear- ty character is another big part of Andrea’s appeal, is a big meat fan. He once gave me a tour through his meat locker, slapping and stroking sides of beef with the joy and pride of an artist surveying some ot his favorite works. The restaurant's steak list alone runs to almost two dozen selec- tions, crowned with a mighty 10 oz. Filet Mignon ($16.50). And if you are in an aristocratic frame of mind, sample a Chateaubriand for four: $80. But if you are hoping to shave a few dollars off this month's dining budget, Andrea’s is also the place to go. tre Centre Moodyville Theatre Company presents a new play by North Vancouver playwright Blanche Howard.
