North Vaacouver District Fise womar Department firefighters were called in just before 3 p.m. to douse the flames ata house located at 294 West Kings Read. Betsy Leora Hitchcox. 52, was discovered unconscious in a hallway near stairs leading to the basement. The woman was rushed to Lions Gate Hospital (photo left), but atlempts to revive her failed, and she was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m. Hitchcox was the sole occupant of the home at the time of the fire, but several cats died in the blaze. Fire destroyed the living room and kitchen of the home. According to a North Vancouver RCMP investigator, the fire apparently originated in the living room area. Cause of death was not determined to press time Thursday. The deceased is survived by her husband and two children. Above, firefighters put out the blaze.
