Craig takes women’s title VANCOUVER’S MARION Craig raced to victory almost a full five minutes ahead of her nearest competitor to take top spot in the women’s category of the West Vancouver Half Mara- thon recently. This weekend Andrews, 62, will be competing against men 20 years his junior in the B.C. Open Bodybuilding Championships in New Westminster. “T feel great. I’m very confident I’m going to beat them,’ said the Jamaica-born Andrews, who has written a book on fulfilling dreams through physical fitness. When he gave up a burgeoning acting career to pursue his goal of writing his own screenplay, An- drews realized he had to be in good shape to get the most out of his ef- forts. Going by the axiom that ‘‘a man is as old or as young as he wants to be,’”’ he has through determination and a regular training program molded himself into a trim 165- pounds. A culmination of his efforts comes Aug. 6 when he represents Gold’s Gym in the provincial competition. The secret behind his transfor- mation from a 56-year- -old who could not do two sit-ups to a body building competitor: ‘‘motivation — I’m just motivated to ac- complish my dreams. “don’t think because you're 60 or 70 years old you have to stop living.”’ McHugh all finished first in their respective categories and received either medals or trophies for their showings. In the men’s category, Vic- toria’s Pierre Zakarauskas wus first at 1:12:23, followed five se- conds later by Vancouver’s Sean Mullany at 1:12:28. Completing the tight kno: of top finishers was Vancouver's Calvin Robertson in third spot at 1:12:34. Ashley Barrington, Phillip Bell, Al Thompson, Herb Phillips, Art Everton, Frank Kurucz, Ron Atherton, Cliff Hall and Cyrill Tobias also finished first in their classes, receiving cither medals or trophies. In the five-kilometre race held in conjunction with the half- marathon, top men’s finishers were Mike King at 15:09, Cameron Ross at 16:10 and Walter Hobj at 16:16. Top women’s finishers in the five-kilometre run were Mary Ross at 17:24, Sharon Johnson at 21:29 and Maureen Boldt at 22:45.
