The money will be used by the hospital to purchase a gastroscope for its endoscopy unit. “It’s very much needed,'' LGH vice-president Tom McMillan said. The machine, a flexible telc- scope-like instrument, is passed through the throat to diagnose and treat esophagus, stomach and small bowel ailments. Legion service officer Jim Irvine said the 700-member organization had decided to use the money, which came from its poppy fund, to make a specific purchase rather than just make a regular donation. Money donated to the legion’s poppy fund is largely used to help out veterans and their families, but it is also used to fulfill various community needs.
