At issue is an additional 1.3 acres of land owned by the District and adjoining the 3.8 acre site already owned by the School Board. For the five past years jhe Board has been attempting to purchase the extra 1.3 acres needed for a full-scale school. But District council has consistently refused to rezone the land for school use despite considerable support for the new school project from the Deep Cove community. The planned new school is intended to replace the present aging Burrard View School. It has been ap- proved by the Ministry of Education and funding for. the project is in place. Meanwhile, District council has called a public hearing for July 21 at 7:30 p.m. to consider rezoning of the 1.3 acres in contention to parkland ~— a move which would effectively block the building of a new school. If the rezoning is even- tually approved, the School Board will have to restrict itself to constructing merely ap annex to Burrard View on its existing 3.8 acre site -- which does not provide adequate playground and public access space for a full-scale school. | New round in school battle In view of the strong the Cove Cliff School issue, public Controversy aroused Tuesday's hearing is ex- over the past three years by pected to be a lively one. “RIVIERA SPA ' Swimming & Fitness Centre Men.
