Henry Mancini’s unique
sound has spanned the entire
musical spectrum — from
jazz to latin, country to big
band, marchtime to ragtime.

-Born in Cleveland, Ohio in
1924, Mancini took an early
interest in music —- and
more specifically, the flute
-—~ when he was only 8. At
the age of 12 he took up the
piano and within a few years
became interested in

- arranging.

Following high-school
graduation, Mancini
enrolled at Juilliard, but his
studies were cut short by a
service draft call in 1943.
