BREAST cancer is the leading cause of death among women between the ages of 35 and 49 in Canada. While advances in research are made every day, we are still far from a cure. “Funds are always needed for research, espe- cially since there are many different cancers,” says Sally Sapinsky, former president of the West Van Unit, Canadian Cancer Sociery (CCS). “Irs not all going to happen at one time.” Forty-five cents from every doliar donated to or raised by CCS goes directly to research, notes Sapinsky, who admires the strength of breast can- cer survivors she meets through her work with the society’s newly formed North Shore Unit. “When we see women handle their challenge in such a positive way it inspires us in our fundraising, even more,” she says. In creating this year’s fall fashion feature, we too were inspired by the commitment to finding a cure. The models on the following pages are breast cancer survivors and volunteers. Advertisers have shown their support for the cause by making a donation to the CCS, North Shore Unit. October is breast cancer awareness month.
