10 - North Shora News — Sunday, July 23, 2000 MAIL BOX Surrey comments savaged Dear Editor: I am thoroughly disgusted with the atu- tude as expressed by West Vancouver Councillor Victor Durman on BCTV news last night (sce News story Ferry foes want action, July 21). To suggest that Surrey residents are less intelligent than those of West Vancouver, sim- ply because some of them “drive trucks” is both demeaning and derogatory. His ignorant and narrow-minded opinions certainly prove a lack, rather than an abundance of intelligence. To suggest that only West Vancouver is home to “professionals and consultants” and that only they are equipped to intelligently “fght” the bureaucracy of BC Ferries is tudi- crous, Mr. Durman has Grought more disrespect to West Vancouver than he has to the citizens of Surrey with his comments. He should be ashamed, and he should be publicly castigated by his tellow councillors. For someone in public ortice to be so big- oted is a disgrace. Perhaps he should venture out of his ivory tower and discover that there really is a world on the other side of the Lions Gate and Port Mann bridges.
