dent. Svetiana Bezeredi was recently recognized by the
Canadian Gemmologica!l Association for excellence in gemmo-
logicat studies.

N. Shore resident wins gemmology award

NORTH SHORE resident and
Vancouver Community College
(VCC) student Svetlana Bezeredi
has been awarded the 1993 Dean S.
Field Medal for Excellence in gem-
mological studies, _

This prestigious award is given

annually, to the top first-year gem-
mology student in Canada by the
Canadian Gemmological Associ-
ation. ;
_ Bezeredi is a recent immigrarit
from Russia where she worked as
an English teacher. She has lived in
Canada for 2!/2 years.

Although not in the gemmology
industry at present, her goal is to be
a diamond dealer, “buying and sell-
ing stones to major companies.”
when she completes VCC’s pro-
gram in June 1994,

Working with diamonds is her

dream. To Bezeredi, a diamond is
“a noble stone — beautiful, sophisti-
cated, elegant, exquisite!”

The VCC gemmology program,
offered since 1988, is the only one
in Vancouver that offers official
recognition from the Canadian
Gemmologica! Association.
