24 - Sunday, May 9, 1993 ~ North Shore News Grief recovery program will offer support to bereave THE NORTH Shore Grief Recov- ery Group is offering a six-weck program, which meets Monday evenings from 7:15 to 9:15 p.m., May !0 to June 14, at St. Catherine’s Church (Edgemont Village), 1058 Ridgewood Dr. North Vancouver. The program provides those who have been recently bereaved with help and support in coping with some of the often confusing and negative reactions they may be experiencing. This non-denominational pro- gram provides some useful ways of coping and information that helps to give those in mourning THE FOLLOWING is a selection of volunteer opportunities avail- able through North Shore Com- munity Services (NSCS). A REGISTRATION desk vol- unteer is needed. for a seniors’ wellness program. Duties include welcoming people as they come in “the door and giving information about the program. The hours are 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays. FRONT DESK volunteers are needed at a North Shore recre- ation centre to register people for classes and provide information about programming. The hours are from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m, each morning. different perspectives and some hope that they can, indeed, manage and survive this painful time. One group member comniented, “Very informative. Train- ing and orientation will be pro- vided. The hours are flexible. COMMITTEE MEMBERS who are interested in planning and fundraising are needed for a North Vancouver community ser- vices agency. While everyone grieves in his or her own way and reacts uniquely to his or‘her own situation, there are similarities’ and strategies that can be shared, which can ease the - burden a little. Also, just knowing that one is not alone is helpful. Ongoing support is available following the six-week program and is an option that many choose, as the encouragement from their new friends helps them to maintain and progress with the healing that needs to happen. Pre-registration is required, as is a commitment for the six weeks, The group leader, Elizabeth Mendgen, has special training in providing grief recovery, as does her assistant, Ann Mansfield.
