Local band wins award

THE WEST Vancouver group The
Smugglers have won YTV's
Achievement Award for best Ca-
nadian band.

The group, headed by Grant
Lawrence, was awarded for excell-
ing in music in the 19-21 age cat-
egory. The band was chosen from

The Smugglers have just releas-
ed their first recording, The Smug-
glers Visit Marineland on an in-
dependent label, Nardwuar Re-
cords. Lawrence says the band’s
inspiration comes from pre-punk,
garage rock of the early ‘60s.
