ers agree, provided the dishwasher
is used properly with a high per-
formance détergent.

jor department stores and

that factory-made china in the past
eight to 10 years is dishwasher
safe. Antique and hand-painted
china may not have protective
overglazing, so handwashing may
be safest. If in doubt, it is wise to
check with the ‘ manufacturer
directly.

The first step to washing your
china safely is to load the machine
correctly. Check your owner’s
manual for the’ best method with
your model. Other good, general
guidelines include these:

*Some dishwashers include
food disposal ‘grinders, so little
pre-rinsing is necessary.. Tough,
dried-on soils such as egg should
be pre-rinsed. Solid items such as
seeds, fruit pits, potato skins or
bones must be removed... .
