Airy powders and translucent foundations have followed thick, cosmetics, mask-like formulations as the makeup of choice these days. New York makeup artist Bobbi Brown agrees. She recommends using concealer only where there may be blotchiness or blemishes, like around the nose or chin, and under the eye for dark circles. A quick sweep of powder finishes the look. ‘‘Today, women want a natural look that lets heaithy skin shine through,”’ says Brown. But many women may not “dare to go bare’? because of less-than-flawless skin. According to a recent skin care study conducted by Chesebrough-Pond’s, a high per- centage of women between the ages of 20 and 49 said breakouts were their number one complaint! So how do you attain this look of healthy radiance? These quick and easy tips can help lead the way. @ Good skin starts with sensible cleansing habits. Washing twice a day is plenty. Over-washing and abrasive cleans- ing are to be avoided.’’ @ Skin is affected by many forces outside our control, but there are some we can try to influence. Good diet and exercise habits, avoidance of bad habits such as smoking, too much caffeine and alcohol, and keeping stress under control are very important. A radiant complexion starts, but doesn’t stop, with a simple but effective skin care regimen. @ A skin care routine needn’t be a highly involved process with multiple steps. These days, pro- ducts are available that often do two or more jobs simultaneously. The trend started with shampoo and conditioner in one. Now, the idea is showing up in skin care products such as toning cleansing lotions or moisturizing cleansers. @ Many of the signs of aging are related to the sun. It’s the number one cause of excess wrinkles, discoloration and” loss of elasticity. Even in the fall and winter months, the UV rays that damage skin are prevalent. Consistent use of sun protection is one of the best ways to combat these preventable aging signs. Finally, the best advice is to be patient. Good skin won’t happen overnight.
