The Lynn Valley team finished third in last year’s provincial tournamant. : _ O’Connor, Mari lead WV Otters BRENT O’CONNOR led his West Vancouver Otter teammates with 10 medals at the provincial age-grcup swimming champi- onships at the Vancouver Aquatic Centre last week. O’Connor won six golds, three silvers and a bronze. Anis Mari was the top female Otter, winning five medals for the West Vancouver swim club, including two golds, two silvers and a bronze. “These results show that you can - have it all,” proclaimed Otter head coach Jeff Beatty. “The kids don’t realize how well they've set them- selves up for next yeur.” Besides the strong medal perfor- mances, the club boasted 15 swim- mers in the top 10 of the provincial finishes. Lynn Valley back on national track DEFENDING CANADIAN Little League champion Lynn Valley won its Junior Division District Championship on the Canada Day long weekend by going undefeated through the playoffs at Ambleside Park. Lynn Valley needed four runs in the final inning to overcome a 4-3 North Van Central lead and advance to the provincial tournament. Coach Eden Briscoe said that while he didn’t think his team hit as well as it could have, the other teams were coming on strong against the defending Canadian champs. Briscoe added that the high level of competition was good for baseball on the North Share. Lynn Vallcy’s 4-0 playoff record increased its 1994 total record — regular season plus playoffs — to 23-0, The boys start defending their 1993 Provincial Championship this Saturday in White Rock; the Canadian Championships also take place there on the Aug. 6-7 ¥-eekend. GIRLS SQUIRT DIVISION The North Shore Girls’ fastball team (11-12 years old) finished off their stellar 1994 season by going undefeated through the provincial championships to take the British Columbia crown. The North Shore team outscored their opponents 80-41 in the seven- game sweep with pitcher Michele Rauter recording four of the wins. The squad also won the Newton Tournament with four wins and no losses, as well as winning the North Delta Invitational Tournament with six wins and one loss, They completed regular season play in second place although they only lost one game. Also: The North Shore Rainmakers won the Provincial B Cup at Newton. PEE WEE GIRLS The North Shore Lightning fin- . ished second to Campbell River in the Provincial B Fastpitch Championships.
