TRAFFIC THINS out after evening rush hour on the Upper

RecCentre offering
island trail hike

WILLIAM GRIFFIN recreation
centre is offering a five-day outing
to the West Coast Trail on Van-
couver Island.

This fall will be the last chance
to visit this spectacular area
without a reservation. The route
along the “Graveyard of the
Pacific’ offers many chances to
explore shipwrecks and discover
the rugged beauty of the famous
coastline,

The group will do the ‘‘easier’’
half of the trail, from Bamfield to
Nit Nat, Hikers should be in fairly
good shape and have made a few
day hikes before coming.

The recreation centre will pro-
vide tents, stoves, transportation
and a guide. Everyone caming
must bring a good pair of
“broken in’’ hiking boots, sleep-
ing bag, foamy, rain gear
(remember that there were record
sainfalls this summer), cooking
utensils and all their own food for
five full days.

Departure time is very carly
Friday morning, Oct. 11 (Thanks-
giving weekend), returning late
Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 15.

The cost is $90 per person and
anyone going must first come to
the orientation meeting Oct. 3,
6:30 p.m., at the recreation cen-
tre.

There must be a minimum of
eight people (maximum of 10) for
the trip to proceed.
