By Elizabeth Collings News Reporter A kick-off for the Great Capilano River Duck Race on March 10, the Duck Ball is also a fundraiser for the YMCA. But volunteer Bev Slceman is quick to stress that the ball is open to all and is not just a YM- CA function. “It’s a community affair. {t's open to everyone,"’ says Sleerran. The ball starts at 7 p.m. at the West Vancouver YMCA. Dinner by La Gourmandise will be served at 8 p.m. while entertainment for the evening will be provided by Lance Harrison and his band. Tickets cost $30 per person and give each ticketholder a crack at winning one of several door prizes including a weekend to Harrison Hotsprings provided by Hagen’s Travel and two Air B.C. return tickets to Kelowna. Meanwhile, the ducks are in rigorous training for the Duck Race which starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 10. Organizers estimate that 30,000 little rubber ducks will travel from the Upper Levels Highway down Capilano River to the finish at the shores near Park Royai. Sponsored by the North Van- couver Rotary Club, this event is in its fourth year. To date, rotarians have raised from the race almost $200,000 for more than 90 community and charitable associations. At $5 a duck, participants will have a shot at sharing in more than $40,000 worth of prizes. Tickets can be purchased at the North Shore YMCA, any North Shore Credit Union Branch and tocal malls.
