entertainment ES Musicfest pays homage to Mozart IN 1991, musicians around the world will be marking the 200th anniversary of Welfgang Amadeus Mozart's death. But North Vancouver’s West Coast Amateur Musicians won't be mourning. ‘“We want to cele- brate the wonderful music he left us,’’ says West Coast Amateur Musicians president Jack Downs. To that end, the seciety is planning a sight reading session of one of Mozart’s most famous works — Mass in C (Coronation) Nov. 10 at Musiciest ‘90. Musicfest ‘9G is a workshop for singers and _in- strumentalists, and this year it will be held at West Vancouver United Church at 2062 Esquimalt, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., under the direction of Gerald van Wyck of Vancouver Community College. van Wyck is the conductor of the VCC choir, the Madrigal Singers and the Willan Choir. For more information about Musicfest'90 phone Peter Gaupp at 988-1303, or register at the door. The cost is $10. Forest management mistakes chronicled From page 30 analysis and accusation in Three Men and A Forester (Harbour Publishing; 240 pp.; $26.95). Three Men and A Forester is not an academic treatise. It’s not complex or jargon-loaded. Highly readable and even enter- taining with its strong anecdotal component. Three Men and A Forester is a book every British Columbian should read. Consider- ing the economic impact forest management policy has on all of us, it’s ne exaggeration to say that this might well e@ the most impor- tant title ever published in B.C. Ex-pat Taste Test * Ruddles or a Double Diamond. Anyone for Halibut and Chips ($8.95)? You in the back? Fine. Be my guest. And? A generous chunk of fish, but the batter’s a bit greasy. OK. And, egads, what's that? A package of store-bought tartar sauce for a garnish. For dessert, you might want to sample a Cheese trifle ($3.25), though it’s not really up to British standards: a weak-kneed custard topped with canned fruit, sponge cake and whipped cream. The Cheese caters to a cross- sec?'on of SeaBus tourists, Quay shoppers and expatriate Erits. Those in the last category arrive for dinner dressed in white shirts, tweed ties and old schoal blazers. Have to keep up the standards, old boy, can’t let the side down, you know. And indeed, while the Cheshire Cheese is hardly a genuine British pub it possesses enough ingre- dients of that classic institution to make it a good substitute for those ‘abroad’, and it also blends enough corny Canadiana to make it comfortable for those of us who live in the colonies.
