Society holds auction

THE LIONS Gate Hospice Society
fund-raising auction is the place to
de on Saturday, Nov. 18.

The event will be held at the
Medical Day Centre in Lions Gate
Hospital, 231 E. 15th St., North
Vancouver. Doors open at 6:30
p.m.

A light supper is included in the
ticket price of $10 per person as
well as door prizes and a no-host
bar. The silent auction runs
throughout the evening while the
auctioneer calls for opening bids at
the live auction beginning at 7:30
p.m.

A peek at the auction items
revealed a Daniel Izzard painting,
a champagne brunch on a sailboat,
dinner for two at Cafe Splash,
lunch and golf with West Van-

with people. Volunteer and give a
special gift to those in need. The
following is a sample of the volun-
teer opportunities available
through the North Chore Informa-
tion and Volunteer Centre.

CHRISTMAS Bureau _helpers
are needed for a variety of short-
term positions: toy shop helpers to
stock toys and assist clients while
shopping; general office help to
answer phones and give out food
vouchers; drivers with reliable
vehicles to make up food hampers,
organize volunteers and deliver
hampers as needed. Hours are
flexible days, from Nov. 15 to
Dec. 22.

THE KEEP Well program has a
unique approach to the health of
seniors. Participate in this in-
nevative, active and vital program.
A group walker is needed to lead
active seniors on various walks to
such places as Ambleside and Lynn
River three Mondays per month
from 9 to fl a.m. A driver/walker
is wanted to take seniors on walks
on the North Shore and drive them
back to the seniors centre. Class 1V
licence or willingness to gei one is
necessary.

There is also a need for an exer-
cise instructor to lead active

Reno and beyond, stays with
various hotels, tickets to a variety
of theatre performances and a vin-
tage bottle of wine.

Proceeds from the auction will
go toward supporting a much-
needed volunteer coordinator for
the palliative care program on the
North Shore. This program cares
for terminally-ill patients and their
families during the most difficult
time in their lives. The volunteer
coordinator will provide a vital
link between the program and the
people in need.

awareness information to seniors,
and a photographer to take pic-
tures of senior activities for pro-
motional material. Flexible hours
and sporadic assignments for
specific events. If you enjoy

program promoting health and
well-being.

ENJOY children? Two child-
care groups are in need of people
to assist infants and children with
reading, play activities and snacks.
Fridays 1 to 3 p.m. and Tuesday,
Wednesday or Thursday from 9 to
11:30 a.m.

GOOD communication skills are
necessary to fill a position of tour
guide/decent. The volunteer will
be guiding tours through the
laboratories of the Fisheries and
Oceans Dept., providing general
information and explaining various
projects, cquipment and -1ro-
cedures. A knowledge of biology
would be helpful. One to three-
hour shifts, Monday to Friday, 8
a.m, to 4 p.m.
