Richmond races into Fun AT 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 19. the beat of feet will be heard at Minoru Track as the Fifth Annual Rich- mond Flatland 10 Kilometre run begins. This year the race is held in con- junction with the Canadian Wheelchair Sports Association Third Annual National 106 Kilometre Championship. The enthusiasm will be enhanced by the competition of high calibre wheelchair athletes from all across Canada. Tony Davies, the race director, announced that this year the new and challenging course will be flat- ter than ever. As this is one of the biggest 10- kilometre races in the Vancouver area, Davies urges that all athletes enter early to ensure a place in the fieid. For their $10 entry fee all com- petitors will receive the well-known Richmond Flatland long sleeve T- shirt. Among the wheelchair com- petitors will be some international wheelchair athletes returning from competition in Sweden and England. Notably, Paul Clark of Terrace, B.C., who has just broken three new world records in the track events. Also to be watched will be Diane Rakieckiof of Kelowna who has returned from England with gold medals. Free pizza and beer, compli- ments of Boston Pizza and the Richmond inn, will enhance the awards ceremony for all com- petitors.
