Program designed
for entrepreneurs

THE BCIT School of
Management is launching, in
January 1986, a program for
budding entrepreneurs called
the Venture Project, part of
its Enterprise Developement
Studies Prograin.

The 23-week program is
designed to help participants
achieve maximum personal
effectiveness, improving
market focus, tightening a
strategic plan, attracting fi-
nancing, overcoming risk,
and building a resource base
and key contracts.

aimed at a certain sort of
business person.

“The program is an inten-
sive preparation for people
who want to start a
‘technically-oriented
business’’, said Randy
Vandermark. ‘‘That is to
say, it is not intended ‘for
someone starting a_tradi-

tional business like a grocery
store or a hair salon,

Rather, it is for the person
introducing a new product
or service and facing high
risks in the process."’

Because of the intensive
customized nature of the
program, only 15 can enter it
in January, Over 23 weeks,
as many as 40 members of
BCIT's faculty will act as in-
structors and resource peo-
ple for the program.

Each participant also has
mentor to help with the
development of the student's
project.

The mentors are successful
entrepreneurs who have
discovered first hand the pit-
falls of starting a venture.

Director for the Project is
Hat Thompson, a_ gold
medallist in both Mechanical
Engineering and Business
Administration (MBA) and
an entrepreneur himself for
the past 15 years.
