TO te, eat BRIAN SMITH VISITS.NORTH SHORE — North Shore residents had a chance to tell the provincial education minister what concerned them about the education System Wednesday and judging from the response peopte care about everything from college tuition fee increases to teaching fine arts in school. Education Minister Brian Smith was visiting the North Shore for one of a series of forums and after holding a meeting in West Vancouver in the afternoon, Smith listened to a packed audience in the evening at public meeting held in Carrisbrooke school in North Vancouver. The afternoon meeting was intended as a closed meeting but about 70 people attended, including representatives of the North Vancouver Teachers Association (NVTA) and the West Vancouver Teachers Association (WVTA). NVTA President Loretta Ceraldi said her group presented the minister with nine briefs which covered such topics as pensions, mainstreaming and special needs. Ceraldi said she was pleased with the time Smith devoted to hstening to them. WVTA President Patty Boyle said that association presented six briefs on topics of concern to teachers. “Our association is very satishied with the way the minister responded to the briefs,” she said. At the afternoon meeting, the West Vancouver Parents for French group and the West Vancouver Arts Council also presented briefs. At the evening meeting, the minister accepted comments and hstened to briefs from 28 groups and individuals. A contingent from the Capuano College Student Society expressed concern about funding cutbacks and the fear of a subsequent increase in tuition fees. Also presenting briefs were former North Van- couver School Board Trustees David Craig and Ernie Sarsfield. Craig spoke for the “Sun.-Moon. Several people spoke to Smith on subjects surrounding the Cove Clif school controversy.
